- The first stuffed bear was sold by the shopkeeper, Morris Michtom, in Brooklyn in November 1902.

- The first advertisement about plush stuffed bears was featured in a toy trade magazine of United States in May 1906. Teddy bears were known as “Bruins” those days.
- In November 1906 the first advertisement about plush bears was published in Playthings, which was a toy trade magazine of New York.
- The first illustrated book named as “Teddy Bear”, was written by Alice Scott. That book was based on the stuffed bears.
- Farnell Company started manufacturing first British plush bear in the year 1908. The company was previously involved in the manufacturing of silk and was responsible for producing pincushions.
- The first ever-animated cartoon based on stuffed bears was “Little Johnny and the Teddy Bears” and it was featured in United States.
- The 100th anniversary of plush bears was celebrated in 2002.
- Common bear brands, which have an impact on the production and selling of stuffed bears include Gund and Russ Berrie.
- Some of the characters of stuffed animals include Winnie-the-Pooh, Rupert bear and Sooty. Several books have also been written for children on these characters.
